Super Bowl betting – a duel in the sun?

Hot stuff expected on Super Sunday

Super Bowl betting – with Betfred

The SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, California. Venue for this year’s Super Bowl, and purely by chance the home of one of the finalists, the Los Angeles Rams. Kick-off is at 3.30pm local time on Sunday (11.30pm UK), and I’ve read weather reports saying the temperature could be around 84 degrees – over 28C.

If so this would be one of the hottest SB clashes in history, and could help provide the platform for a match fit for the magnitude of the occasion.

I’ve been thinking about the likely outcome, as no doubt have you, since the two respective teams won their Conference Championship matches. On the one hand the Rams – several Galacticos expensively grafted on to an already considerable unit. A team designed to lift the Lombardi.

Facing them, the Bengals. Turning around a yawning period of mediocrity and hardly lacking for the odd superstar themselves – Joe Burrow, Rookie of the Year Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins spring readily to mind. Success built on a never-say-die ethic, grafting tirelessly alongside those standouts to arguably, gloriously, overachieve this term.

Cincinnati Bengals have beaten the Kansas City Chiefs twice in the last six weeks, and one of those wins was for the AFC Championship. If anyone feels they are underdogs with a mere puncher’s chance on Sunday, this fact should dispel any such theory.

The Los Angeles Rams have edged past Tampa Bay and San Francisco in recent weeks by a mere three points each time, and having dominated the Bucs, nearly allowed Old Father Tom and company to reel them in late in the piece. They are a compelling ball club, superbly coached, and easy on the eye.

Sometimes in sport you just have a feeling about something. Momentum. Fate. History. A hunch. All my many, many years in sport are nudging me towards the Bengals simply because it’s beginning to feel it might just be written in the stars. Scientific? Hardly. But we all know that The Fates seem to play a part in sport, in life. How? Ask me an easier one.

I expect LA to start hot. Burst from the traps and get their noses in front. It’s Rams -2.5 in the first-half handicap, and I’ll be having an interest there. I’m hoping thereafter however that the Bengals will replicate their game plan from the Conference final against the Chiefs, and reel ‘em in.

The Double Result Rams/Bengals is 17/2, and again I’ll be having a couple of quid there. Finally, Bengals on the money line to win outright, at 13/8. Whatever happens, a goodly slice of the planet’s population will be tuning in to enjoy one of those annual events that just demands to be savoured.

It might not have the century-plus history of some of our most prized sporting baubles, but it’s up there with the best of them in all other respects.

Pop a few beers in the fridge. Spoil yourself with some favourite snacks. A nice, crisp white, perhaps, or some bubbles of one sort or another. Several brews, of course. Nothing good is ever accomplished without tea.

However you celebrate Super Bowl, have a wonderful evening/early morning, and whatever actually happens, fingers crossed for a cracking match we can get thoroughly involved in, and savour.
