Klopp urges Reds to keep the pressure on

Jurgen Klopp Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he wants his team to continue to be a thorn in Manchester City’s side as they prepare to welcome relegation-threatened Leeds United to Anfield (Liverpool 1/6, Draw 15/2, Leeds United 16/1 – Match Result).

The Reds (10/3 to win the Premier League title) will get the chance to cut City’s advantage at the top of the table to three points, should they beat Leeds on Merseyside.

Wednesday’s clash is Liverpool’s game in hand, while Leeds have played two games less than 14th-placed Brentford, who sit one point above them.

Leeds (10/3 to be relegated) have lost three of their previous four league games, and Marcelo Bielsa’s side have conceded 11 goals in that time.

Liverpool were slow out of the blocks during Saturday’s 3-1 success over Norwich City, but they showed their superior class, and Klopp wants his side to get the job done against Leeds to continue to keep the heat on City.

He told reporters: “We try to be annoying as somehow possible until we have a chance to overtake.

“I don’t know when that will be, if that will be the case. But I always said in a decisive moment in a season is not now; it’s March or April, you have to be close enough to make a decision in your direction.

“For us, first and foremost, it’s important we are close to the top, whoever is there because that obviously shows that something is going in the right direction.

“With all respect, what City’s doing is incredible. We are pushing each other as well. There is no chance to get a bit soft because the other one will be there to catch you.”

Klopp will be unable to call upon the services of Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota, while Leeds will be without Robin Koch, Patrick Bamford, Liam Cooper, Leo Hjelde and Kalvin Phillips.
