Golf Betting Odds: Snedeker counting on experience

There is more than just a title at stake at the Valero Texas Open on Sunday with a Masters place also up for grabs and co-leader Brandt Snedeker (6/1 Valero Texas Open Outright) is hoping that his experience will help him pull through.

Snedeker has overcome a slow start at TPC San Antonio to push himself into contention, with a joint best round of the day (67) on Saturday seeing him rise to the top of the leaderboard in a four-way tie for first alongside JJ Spaun (6/1 Outright), Dylan Frittelli (9/2 fav) and Beau Hossler (5/1) at 10-under par.

Scott Stallings (9/1), who also posted a Saturday 67, has sole possession of fifth, one shot back, while Matt Kuchar (16/1) is in sixth place at -8.

The Masters Betting Odds

England’s Aaron Rai and South Korean Si-Woo Kim are among nine players at -7, three shots off the lead, while Richard Bland is one of five players a shot further back at six under.

Given the tough nature of the course, nine players who will start the final round at -5 might still feel that they have a chance of victory if they can shoot a low round, while many of the leading players have the added motivation of trying to secure a place at next week’s Masters, the first major of the year.

One of those is Snedeker, who has played the Augusta major on 12 previous occasions but needs this Valero Texas Open title to make it 13 this year, and he is hopeful that the experience of nine previous title triumphs under his belt can work in his favour on Sunday.

“So I’ll pull on those years of experience out here,” he told PGATour.com “Tomorrow’s not going to be easy. It never is to win a golf tournament. Knowing that going into it hopefully gives me a little leg up.”
