Smith tells Sezer to relax on return

The Australian half-back was tipped to make a huge impact at Headingley when he moved from Huddersfield during the off-season. However, after a poor start, he was then struck down by a groin injury.

That issue has seen him sidelined for the last three months, a period in which Richard Agar has left the club to be replaced by Smith.

Sezer (7/2 Anytime Tryscorer) is back to face Saints and his coach is excited to see him in the middle directing his side around the park alongside hookers Brad Dwyer and Kruise Leeming and either Richie Myler or old friend Blake Austin in the halves.

With centre Harry Newman expected to be fit enough to start, the Rhinos look to be in a good place as they aim to improve on their current position of eighth in the standings.

Sezer could be a big part of that but Smith is keen to take the pressure off of the 30-year-old, with his aim to ensure he plays his natural game, something he feels will bring the best out of those around him (Match Betting – St Helens 1/5, Leeds Rhinos 4/1, Tie 22/1).

“We’re going to have a different spine, which is exciting but it can also take a bit of time to get flowing again,” said Smith. “Sezer will play at St Helens. He’s in good condition, he’s had an excellent rehab.

“I’m just expecting him to be some himself, to do what he’s done for long period of time. You don’t forget how to do that when you’re injured.

“But I’ll also be urging him just to take his time, not to put too much on his own shoulders, just to get out there and help the team flow.”
