The Open Championship is now on the horizon, and preparations are now well underway across both sides of the Atlantic, with the John Deere Classic and Irish Open taking place this weekend.
Some of the world’s biggest players have decided to take the week off, with Rory McIlroy finally taking a break after a relentless few weeks.
The Northern Irishman is now planning to work on his game ahead of The Open Championship at St Andrews, where he is 9/1 to win.
With the likes of McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Collin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlay all taking the week off, Webb Simpson is the 11/1 favourite to win this week’s John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run.
Sahith Theegala (25/1) scuffed his lines at the Travelers Championship last week, and he will hope he can bounce back at the earliest opportunity.
The Open Championship Betting Odds
On the DP World Tour, all eyes will be on Irish trio Shane Lowry (8/1), Seamus Power (14/1) and Padraig Harrington (70/1) at the Horizon Irish Open at Mount Juliet.
The last home winner of the Irish Open was Lowry when he won the event as an amateur in 2009, and he will need to be at his best to overcome defending champion Lucas Herbert (28/1).
If Lowry can repeat his recent form, he should be in the frame on Sunday, with the former Open winner finishing in the top 25 in 11 of his previous 14 outings.
Thomas Pieters (16/1) and Tyrrell Hatton (18/1) remain the main two dangers to the Irish favourites, and the event should help players prepare for next month’s Open Championship.
