Premier League Odds: Reds ready for title fight

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool to keep building momentum at the expense of Brighton on Saturday as they attempt to apply further pressure on title rivals Manchester City (Match betting – Brighton 11/2, Draw 7/2, Liverpool 8/15).

Liverpool (11/4 – Premier League Outright) begin the weekend sitting six points adrift of leaders City (1/4) but they have a game in hand, while the two clubs still have to meet at the Etihad next month.

After losing to Leicester in December, Liverpool have stitched together an eight-game unbeaten run in the league, winning their last seven.

They head south to the Amex to face Brighton in Saturday’s 12:30 kick off and Klopp insists his men will “try everything” to remain on a positive path, although he admits City still hold the advantage.

Klopp said: “So far the boys did incredibly well and why shouldn’t I think we can’t go on? It’s hard work but the boys are ready. We will try everything, but we cannot call it a title race because we are still behind. We try to win football games, but let’s see.”

The German revealed that Roberto Firmino is back in contention after missing six games with a groin injury.

However, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago and Ibrahima Konate have been absent from training after Klopp confirmed some unnamed players and staff “cannot be involved” due to Covid.

Brighton, who have lost four in a row, can welcome midfielder Enock Mwepu back after two months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

Adam Webster is the only notable absentee with winger Jeremy Sarmiento also available after recovering from a thigh injury.
