Peet hails Field after late Wigan win

Wigan Warriors (4/1 Super League Outright) head coach Matt Peet has described full-back Jai Field as a “class act” following their narrow 19-18 win against Hull FC on Thursday evening.

Field scored two tries in the contest while Ethan Havard added another before it was left to the boot of Harry Smith to win the game with a late drop goal.

The match saw the return of Bevan French who had been out for ten months with a hamstring injury and the win has put Wigan top of table, temporarily at least.

Speaking afterwards, Peet was delighted with the contribution of Field in what he felt was a very even game.

“Jai Field is a class act,” he said. “We’ve got a few players like that who can turn the game and I thought he was good on both sides of the balls.

“He took some dangerous kicks and aggressive contacts but he seems to be enjoying the tough side at the moment.”

On Friday, there are four more Super League games as Kristian Woolf  (pictured) hopes to get St Helens back on the winning trail to regain top spot away at struggling Leeds Rhinos (Match Betting – Leeds 9/2, St Helens 1/6, Tie 25/1).

The Saints have won five from six so far this season and will be keen to bounce back from their shock 22-20 loss to Toulouse last time out.

Leeds meanwhile still don’t have a permanent coach following the departure of Richard Agar and this week lost Harry Newman for three months after hamstring surgery.

Catalans Dragons, also on five wins from six, are in action away at Huddersfield Giants (Match Betting – Huddersfield 7/5, Catalans 8/13, Tie 22/1) who sit fourth after an impressive start to the season.

Daryl Powell’s Warrington Wolves travel to Hull KR (Match Betting – Hull KR 11/8, Warrington 4/6, Tie 20/1) with the Wire losing each of their last four in all competitions, prompting Powell to openly criticise his players.

Finally, the league’s bottom two meet at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle as Castleford Tigers play Toulouse (Match Betting – Castleford 1/11, Toulouse 7/1, Tie 28/1).
