Wigan Warriors head coach Matt Peet has been eager to ease the level of expectation surrounding Bevan French’s return ahead of Thursday’s clash with Hull FC (Wigan 4/11, draw 20/1, Hull FC 23/10 – Match Betting).
The Wigan full-back has not featured for the Warriors since back in May 2021 due to a hamstring injury but was named in the squad to face the Airlie Birds at the DW Stadium this week.
With 26 tries in 34 appearances for Wigan since him move to from Parramatta Eels back in 2019, French was a prolific finisher before his lengthy spell on the sidelines.
With a Betfred Super League showdown against the Black & Whites to come on Thursday, Peet has been keen to play down the pressure on French (6/1 first tryscorer) to hit the ground running.
“Bevan will play,” said Peet. “He’s an exciting and unpredictable player but we won’t be expecting too much from him this week.”
“He’s shown glimpses that he’s ready to come and compete,” Peet added. “He’s back among the lads and enjoying training.
“Bevan is working hard. This week, I’ll just be happy to see him out there and competing hard.”

Wigan will also be boosted by the return of Ian Thornley who has not featured since the opening game of the season after picking up an ankle injury.
As for Hull FC, the visitors on Thursday welcome back skipper Luke Gale and Kane Evans from suspensions, while Darnell McIntosh also returns from injury.
Only two points separate these two teams, with Wigan (4/1 Grand Final Winner) in third place and Hull in fifth in the Betfred Super League standings.
