Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he wants his players “thinking in the right way” as they get set to face Benfica in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday night (Benfica 7/1, draw 4/1, Liverpool 2/5 – Match Betting).

The Reds (2/1 Champions League outright) head to Portugal after edging past Serie A champions Inter Milan in the last-16 round of Europe’s elite competition.

Klopp has called on players to show the right mentality and the willingness to run, in order to take a positive result back to Anfield for the second leg.

“We need desire, mentality and excitement. You can’t buy that,” said Klopp. “We have played games before when we were 1-0 up and we were still running like mad. I want my players thinking in the right way.

“I don’t think about being better, I think about us being on top of our game. That’s the plan for all the games. You try to improve in general.

“We all know one failure, one little misstep, and at least one competition can be gone. That’s no problem for us, we’re just ready for the next challenge. We enjoy it. It is the situation we would have dreamed of.”

Meanwhile, Benfica midfielder Adel Taarabt (7/1 Anytime Goalscorer) says his side are full of respect for Liverpool but will not fear the Reds coming to Lisbon.

Having spent seven years in England with the likes of Tottenham, Queens Park Rangers and Fulham, Taarabt is fully aware of what Liverpool are capable of.

However, the playmaker says his side will have no reservations about going toe to toe with Klopp’s men.

“Of course we have a chance, we’re in the quarter-finals,” said Taarabt. “Liverpool are a team we respect but we don’t fear them. We know the quality they have.”
