Hawks end Suns’ winning streak

Western Conference leaders Phoenix Suns (11/2 – NBA Championship outright) saw their 11-game winning streak come to an end after a 124-111 defeat against Atlanta Hawks.

Trae Young was the star of the show at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, scoring 43 points to help the hosts to victory.

Hawks have now won eight of their last nine games and made 20 of 41 three-pointers, including six by Young, while Kevin Huerter made five and had 19 points.

Suns, who hadn’t tasted defeat since going down to Miami Heat on January 8, trailed 41-10 at one point and they never managed to fully recover, despite Devin Booker chipping in with 32 points.

Elsewhere, Golden State Warriors (4/1 – NBA Championship outright) are now just one win off top spot in the Western Conference following a 126-114 success over Sacramento Kings.

Klay Thompson top-scored for the Warriors in San Francisco with 23 points to help his side earn an eighth successive win.

Thompson’s haul included seven three-pointers and he has moved up to 19th on the NBA’s all-time three-point list, reaching 1,829 to surpass Kobe Byrant.

“The 2011 draft, 10th pick the Kings don’t select me, so people don’t forget,” Thompson said.

There was late drama and five lead changes as the Los Angeles Lakers (16/1 – NBA Championship outright) suffered a 111-110 defeat against rivals Los Angeles Clippers (33/1).

Anthony Davis, who led the Lakers with 30 points and 17 rebounds, saw a shot strike the rim with the final play of the night.

Davis said: “The ball’s touched every part of the rim. A tough play and a tough miss. The ball is in, it rolls out. Tough. This is definitely going to weigh on me. I’m glad we have an off day.”

It was also a dramatic finish as Toronto Raptors edged out Chicago Bulls. Raptors’ Scottie Barnes scored in the final second to force overtime and the Canadian outfit capitalised to win 127-120.

There’s plenty more NBA action to enjoy overnight as the Hawks look to build on their fine win at Toronto (Money Line – Toronto Raptors 5/6, Atlanta Hawks EVS).

Eastern Conference leaders Chicago Bulls hit the road to take on Indiana Pacers (Money Line – Indiana Pacers 23/20, Chicago Bulls 7/10), while Brooklyn Nets will attempt to halt their six-match losing streak at Utah Jazz (Money Line – Utah Jazz 4/9, Brooklyn Nets 7/4).
