Gold Cup fever – Irish hold the aces

Fred Done Betfred Fred Says

So, to the big one … the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup

It’s once again wide-open for me this year, although you can fully expect the winner to be once again Irish-trained. Gordon Elliott’s Galvin will probably dispute favouritism with reigning champ Minella Indo and last year’s runner-up A Plus Tard (below) – both trained by Henry de Bromhead.

A Plus Tard

If you are feeling patriotic, then the best chance according to the odds compilers from these shores lies with Dan Skelton’s Protektorat. Galvin does look like the one to beat for me, especially after he pipped A Plus Tard in that dramatic Savills Chase at Leopardstown in December.

It is even stevens going into the last day of this most splendid of sporting events in the annual punter v bookies battle. And good luck in particular today to two Betfred regulars from West Yorkshire, namely Rob Irwin and his best pal Jonathan White.

They are our special guests at the Festival this afternoon after celebrating their recent cracking win with us by going to Tenerife – and spending some of their holiday money on tattoos featuring the Betfred logo! I really did think I’d seen it all …… obviously not.

A reminder, below ….. and have a great day, lads. Have a great day, everyone.
