Cricket Betting Odds: Moeen says England must adapt better

England stand-in captain Moeen Ali says his side must cope better with challenging conditions after their T20 series loss to the West Indies.

The series was 2-2 heading into Sunday’s final match and it was a very closely-fought contest throughout.

The hosts batted first and achieved a tally of 179-4 with England struggling with their death bowling. Captain Kieron Pollard hit a steady unbeaten 41, with Adil Rashid being England’s best performing bowler, taking 2-17.

England began their innings well and James Vince looked like he was going to help carry his side to success.

However, he was dismissed by Akeal Hosein and then the hosts’ superior bowling power, led masterfully by Jason Holder, who took four wickets in four balls in the final over.

Holder dismissed Sam Billings, Chris Jordan and Rashid, before Saqib Mahmood was bowled for a duck as the Windies sealed a 17-run win.

The result was another disappointing one for England, who are also still coming to terms with their disastrous Ashes series Down Under.

White-ball cricket has been England’s forte in recent times, notably winning the 2019 ODI World Cup thanks to victory over New Zealand.

However, Moeen admits improvement is needed for them to continue flourishing at limited-overs level.

“West Indies were the better team,” he said. “We didn’t adapt to the conditions and just fell short. We are good on flat wickets, but we want to get better in conditions like these going forward.

“We are working on our death bowling, but I didn’t think we were too bad today. We’ll get better as time goes on. They were smarter than us today with bat and ball.”

England will be seeking victory in the T20 World Cup which begins in October this year, before their ODI World Cup (Outright – 3/1) defence next year.

Before then, they get back to Test action in the West Indies with the three-match series starting on March 8th at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua.
