Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway meet for the third time, and again, the stake on the table is the UFC featherweight belt. Volk currently holds the title in the division, and Max wants to regain it. His motives are massive, not only because the legacy of one of the best featherweights ever is on the line, but because the Blessed wants to avenge the controversial loss in their second bout. On the other side, Volkanovski aims to clear all the doubts about his status and show that he really is better than Holloway. Plus, he already has plans to go up and face Charles Oliveira in the lightweight title bout. This fight is the co-main event of the UFC 276.
Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway Preview
Alexander the Great is on a rampage in the featherweight division. He has 21 wins in a row and has already managed to have three successful title defenses. With all the success and domination, it is no wonder why UFC put him in second place in the men’s pound-for-pound rankings.
A versatile fighter who is extremely agile and often very aggressive, Volkanovski beat pretty much all the notable featherweights in the division. Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo, Holloway twice, Brian Ortega, and most recently Chan Sung Jung, whom he obliterated at the UFC 273, inflicting the Korean Zombie one hell of a beating.
Though the shadow of a controversial split-decision win over Holloway at the UFC 251 still laments over his legacy when he, we can say for sure, wasn’t better than the former champion. With all due respect, he might have had a better finish, but Max was better in the opening three rounds.
Back-to-back wins over Calvin Katar and Yair Rodriguez were a good test for the Blessed, who showed his character against two of the elite guys in the division, managing to break both. Against Kattar, we saw the old Max, the one whose striking output slowly cripples the rival, while against El Pantera, we saw him enduring a barrage of various punches before eventually outperforming the Mexican.
It is needles to write too much about this guy. He, too, had wins over all the biggest names in the division and even tried to go up and win the interim lightweight belt, but he lost to Dustin Poirier on a unanimous decision.
Despite some beginning to think that he started losing pace and that the offensive-minded style of play slowly cracked his chin, the performance against Rodriguez shut down all those critics.

Alexander Volkanovski vs. Max Holloway Prediction
Volkanovski will have to use his reach and fantastic jab to prevent Holloway’s bursts. The Aussie will need to be much better at attacking his rival’s lead leg, as we saw that Holloway saw through that in the previous battle. In fact, we are sure that he deliberately accepted the bout with Rodriguez to prepare himself for that. Our opinion here is that Holloway regains his belt because he seemed superb against both Kattar and Rodriguez, and also, due to his performance in the second bout vs. Volk.
Our verdict: Holloway
